Town Fiesta in Lavezares

Once a year there is town fiesta in every small Philippine town. This comprises many events. In a harbour town like Lavezares, naturally there is a boat race, then a short marathon, and 2001, when we were visiting Lavezares for the town fiesta, there was a Baklaton, a race for gay men in their most beautiful dresses - don't laugh, this is the truth! A beauty queen is elected, then there are dancing events and a parade of the schools, and finally the students show what they learned in the field of dancing. People from far away places come home to Lavezares, and the celebration can start.

The boat race also includes the vote for the most beautiful boat.

At the town hall, people come together to watch the celebration, and the mayor (left) is happy.

And then children, children, children...

After the parade, the marching bands show what they learned, and groups of students show dances according to their age group - the same dances Yvette already danced.

In every house there is a party. The host can no be stingy, and so everyone drinks his share...

At the Baklaton, the "Bakla" are running in their most beautiful dresses, and everybody is having fun.

The parade includes the dignitaries of the town, like mayor, treasurer and councillors

The members of the military formation also do not hesitate to greet the "Joe"

The teachers of the school operated by the Sisters of Mary Adorous of the Holy Euchrist are happy about their students.

At the dance event in the evening, the German visitor also has to dance the "Curracha Major" - or something like it. Anyway, my dancing partner was heartily laughing.
